The B.Opto is a 4 year full-time undergraduate allied healthcare course. In this course, students are introduced to the basics of medical sciences with a focus on eye and vision functions. In the first three years of the course, students are fully trained to understand all aspects of human eyesight and the disorders and diseases and how to diagnose and treat them through the use of modern medical technology.
Students will study subjects such as Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Ocular Optics, Ocular Pathology, Ocular Pharmacology and get lots of hands-on training at Eye hospitals and clinics. Students will also get trained on High-tech equipment's like Autorefractometer, Lensometer, Keratometer, Slit Lamp examination, Low vision aids and contact lens
In the fourth year of the course, all students are placed into a 12 months internship with eye hospitals, eye clinics and eyewear chains to gain 100% practical industry experience and to practice their medical skills. Most students get absorbed into full-time positions at these organizations itself, while others are placed by ITM IHS into full-time careers with excellent starting salaries in the range of INR 25,000 - 50,000 per month.
