Exam structure

The NMAT exam is computer-delivered, with each candidate receiving a randomly generated test from a pool of questions delivered one at a time. The number of questions, difficulty levels, and time limit for each section are predetermined and remain the same under normal administration conditions regardless of when and where the test is administered. Candidates have the option of ordering/sequencing the test sections.

The NMAT exam is divided into three parts: language skills, quantitative skills, and logical reasoning.

The three sections of the NMAT are timed separately. Test takers must complete each section's questions and answers within the time allotted.

Exam pattern

NMAT, like other MBA entrance exams, is a computer-based exam with multiple-choice question papers. The examination can be proctored at the exam center or the candidate's home. It is a moderately difficult exam, considerably less difficult than the CAT and XAT. Candidates have 120 minutes to complete the examination. Previously, the paper contained 120 questions, but the 2020 pattern has changed, and the question paper now contains only 108 questions of one mark each, which must be answered within the time limit. Because there is no negative marking, instead of leaving a question unanswered, candidates can make a calculated guess and mark the answer without fear of being penalized for a wrong answer.

If an applicant is dissatisfied with their first score, the exam allows them to retake the exam three times. This provides them with an opportunity to raise their score.

The GMAC administers three sections of the NMAT. They assess the candidates' basic verbal and quantitative abilities and skills. According to the 2020 exam pattern, each section listed below is individually timed, and there is no negative marking.

NMAT Admit card

NMAT 2022 Admit Card will be available for download on the official website- mba.com/nmat- within 24 hours of the completion of NMAT registration and exam schedule.

  • After the NMAT application fee is paid, the authorities will send a link to download the NMAT Admit Card to the candidate's registered email address.
  • Candidates can access their admit cards by entering their registration number and password.
  • The NMAT Admit Card will include all pertinent information regarding the exam location, exam time, reporting time, and exam day instructions.

Selection process

The Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GD & PI) round, which is conducted by the participating NMAT colleges, is the next stage of the NMAT selection process.

Instead of the traditional GD round, the participating NMAT colleges may choose to conduct a WAT (Writing Ability Test) or Case Discussion (CD) round. The final admission decision is based on the combined performance in the NMAT online test and the GD-PI round.

Benefits of the NMAT exam

Here are some of the benefits of the exam:

  • Helps you perform and excel

Whatever the test, students are bound to become anxious about how they will perform in it. This stress affects the student's exam performance. The NMAT is designed in such a way that it assists students in controlling their stress and not allowing it to affect their performance.

The NMAT allows students to take the exam three times in one admission cycle. The student is a little more relaxed on their first attempt because there are two more chances if the first one fails.

The test is designed in such a way that students have time to revise their answers, resulting in greater clarity and certainty of responses.

  • Provides flexibility in its tests

Students are not required to follow a strict order; they are free to begin answering any section they choose.

One of the main reasons why students prefer the NMAT is that it has no negative marking. Students frequently leave out questions for fear of receiving a negative marking, but for the NMAT, they are willing to attempt all of the questions, even those they are unsure of.
