Guest Lecture Report
A guest lecture on “Quality standards in Service Industry” was held on 15th November 2019. The guest session was
organized by Department of Operations & SCM to provide the students of Operations & DMT an opportunity to get
a head start in Quality standards in Service Industry.
The guest lecture began with welcome address by the Head of the Department, Prof B.V.R Murty . He has introduced and
welcomed Mr. Amod Deshpande , General Manager of Indian Register Quality Service (IRQS) person to deliver the lecture.
Mr. Amod Deshpande is General manager at Indian Register Quality Service (IRQS) Mumbai, veteran with 23 years of
experience in Production and Quality Assurance in Automotive Industry. IRQS is the first Indian Certification body
established in 1991 as division under Indian Register of Shipping to provide Management System Certification Services
under various ISO standards which was gaining popularity and was the need of the hour since the release of ISO 9000
Standards for “Quality Management Systems” in 1987 and is today known among the top certification bodies of the world.
The session started with ISO certifications what are the different types to ISO certifications and why are they important for
Service Industry along with that he also educated us on IT/security training services.
The session was then continued by Mr. Bhalerao who began with an introduction to what is ISO 27001- Information and
security management and how important it is going to be in the near future. Following which, Mr. Bhalerao shed light on
the benefits of ISO 27001 in cyber crime issues.
The session ended with a hearty thanks and presenting of a memento to Mr. Amod Despande and Mr. Bhalerao by
Prof B.V. .R Murty and Shweta Kishore in appreciation for taking the time out to educate the students on ISO certifications
and training programs. Mr. Amod Deshpande thanked the Management for providing the platform to organize guest lectures
on innovative topics.
