ITM Music Circle, Kharghar, founded in 2007 under direct supervision and guidance of Chairman, Dr. P. V. Ramana with the dual objective of bringing Indian Classical Dance and Music artists for the sake of Navi Mumbai audience and to provide a platform for young and talented artists to showcase their talents. During past ten years, over 30 music and dance programmes have been hosted by ITM Music Circle. On Saturday, 5th May 2018, Odissi recital by Guru Shubhada Varadkar her two bright, young disciples – Shreya and Mitali- was organised at ITM Kharghar auditorium.

Normally, in all classical dances, the story is chosen from mythology. The modern youth does not easily relate with the old mythological stories. That’s why we have chosen a real-life story of Youth Icon Swami Vivekananda, for our dance show titled “Journey to Divinity”, said Shubhada Varadkar. She is direct disciple of Padma Vibhushan Kelucharan Mohapatra and A-grade artist of Doordarshan having won many national and international awards.

It is heartening to note that Odissi dance is included as a course in IIT Bhubaneshwar’s B. Tech. Syllabus since 2015 and the Oxford University has its Odissi Centre established since 2016.

The three dancers took the audience through the important incidences in the life of Swami Vivekananda like his asking doubts about existence of God, his meeting with Guru Ramakrishna Parmahansa, his visit to Chicago Conference and his historic speech there, his return to home.  The programme ended with the Nirvanashatakam of Shankaracharya. With the help of video clippings and voice over, the artists unfolded the life story and philosophy of Vivekananda in classical odissi dance style. The artists kept the audience enthralled throughout the recital. At the end of the show the house full auditorium gave standing ovation to the artists.

Shubhada was a cancer patient but her passion for dance and dedication enabled her to fight it out and came out with flying colours and now she is one of the most well-known odissi artist globally. Her dance touched the hearts of 160 strong dance lovers came from Kharghar, Belapur, Nerul, Vashi, Kamothe, Taloja, Panvel, Thane, Mulund, Chembur, Parle, Bandra, Borivli gathered to watch the show. They all appreciated the dance show and thanked ITM Music Circle for organising such wonderful programmes at Kharghar. Sanskrit Scholar, Sh. S. Surendranath felicitated the artists. He thanked the artists and the ITM Kharghar for hosting such programmes which very few Business Management Institutes in India do.

Prof. Arjun Naik thanked the dancers, the audience and requested them to attend our next programme in such big numbers. The event ended after the National Anthem. Ms Jasmine Jha and student volunteers Bhanu, Dipit, Seema, Ujjaini, Garima extended all the necessary support for the success of the event.
