It may come as a surprise to many that a b-school students are visiting Dhobi Ghat. Well, there are certain reasons for that.
• Dhobi Ghat, one of the major tourist attractions of Mumbai, is the largest open air laundromat recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records.
• Though it may look chaotic, the dhobis in the place work in extreme order; an excellent display of Supply Chain Management starting from collecting clothes to washing, drying, ironing, and distribution
• It churns out Rs. 100 crore turnover every year with a very nominal charge of Rs. 25/unit
The visit was an eye opener for the students. It produces an excellent business model that employs 7000 washermen along with many other auxiliary laborers. The Dhobi Ghat, which has been in existence since 1890, can teach anyone a good lesson on organisation, collaboration, and management.
A batch of students from Operations & SCM visited the place and interacted with the washermen there for a first-hand experience.
