About Fellowship Programme in Management


The ITM Fellowship Programme is an AICTE approved doctoral level programme at ITM Kharghar, Navi Mumbai. The duration of the programme is 4 years. The programme mix involves critical core courses, in-depth and research based courses related to the domain interest of the candidate, individually pursued self-study courses and the topics-of-individual-interest, that ultimately leads to the student’s thesis. Designed with the help of Industry experts and Academicians from across the globe , the content is aimed to train potential scholars to grow into extremely skilled and ground-breaking researchers, management thinkers to succeed in careers such as Academics, Research, Business Consultancy.

The primary objectives of ITM Fellowship Programme


To train scholars by enhancing their analytical skills to become highly skilled researchers and pursue career as teachers in management studies and in related disciplines.
To provide scholars with necessary skills to identify and research complex issues in the field of management and disseminate their findings into publications of international standards.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA


FPM is open to all candidates, who qualify the admission process that includes Academic Eligibility,
Research Proposal Presentation and Personal Interviews (PI).

A. Master’s Degree or equivalent in Engineering and Technology/ Management/ Economics/ Social Science/ Biological Science/ Pure Science/ Commerce/ Humanities with FIRST CLASS shall be considered for admission to Fellowship Programme.

B. Those appearing for their final examination in the respective discipline can also apply. Such students if selected shall be provisionally admitted provided they complete all requirements in obtaining their Master’s Degree before 30th September of the year of admission. The admission of these candidates shall remain provisional until they produce the mark sheet proving that they satisfy the eligibility criteria. The deadline for submitting the final year mark sheet is 31st December.

ITM Sponsored Fellowship Programme(SFPM)

This is a fully funded programme where a scholar will be paid monthly stipend as follows:

Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) @ Rs.25, 000/- p.m. for year 1 (No taxes will be deducted)
Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) @ Rs.30, 000/- p.m. for year 2 (No taxes will be deducted)
Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) @ Rs.35, 000/-p.m. for remaining tenure as SRF

Contingency @Rs.30000/- p.a.* (Contingent expenses may include all incidental and other expenses which are incurred for research work related to the topic. i.e. purchase of books, travel expenses for research related activities, stationary etc. with prior consent of Director).
Office Space and computers facility will be provided.

Progression path


Credit Requirement


In partial fulfillment of the requirement of the Fellow Programme (SFPM and FPM), a minimum number of Course credits are required to be earned as prescribed below.

All classes will be conducted over weekends on Saturday and Sunday.

Year 1

Complete all courses of module I and II with minimum 75% attendance.
Publish one research paper in a peer-reviewed journal, indexed in Scopus. This will assist in learning from classical and contemporary literature in your area of specialisation and also help to review literature to ultimately funnel down to their research interest within the domain.

Year 2

Complete advanced courses as listed in Module II with minimum 75% attendance.
Publish a Research Paper in a peer-reviewed journal, indexed in Scopus.
Write Comprehensive exam by the end of year 2, as per area requirement.

Details of Courses and Seminar


The stream specific Courses and Seminars shall be decided as approved by the Director on the recommendation by the scholars Guide(s) and the Research Advisory Committee.

Duration for Earning Credit


All the credits specified above shall be earned within a maximum of two years from the date of admission to the Programme. Extension after the two years shall be approved by the Director for a period of one year with a review of progress every six months. Final approval shall be given by the Director of the Institution.

Credit Coverage


A research scholar shall undergo 4 Courses of the total 12 credits in the first module and during the second module he/ she shall undergo three streams-specific Courses of 9 credits and give three credit Seminar on general management topic in the third module, the candidate shall give three credits Seminar and write a review paper on the literature related to his/her research topic for publication purpose of 3 credits. Thus a candidate shall earn 12 credits in the first and second module and 6 credits in the third module together adding up to 30 credits in all.

Grading System of Credit Courses/Seminar


Exam will be conducted after every module. The minimum CGPA of 6.5 on a 10 point scale or 60% is required for passing Course/Seminar .A candidate getting less than 60% shall be given one more opportunity to repeat the Course/Seminar. If he/she still does not pass in the Course/Seminar, he/she shall be terminated from the Fellow Programme.

Year 3

Identify Research Advisory Committee (RAC) members.
Identify a Thesis topic, complete preliminary research work on the topic, and work on a Thesis proposal.
Submit the Thesis proposal to the RAC by the end of the third year for approval.
Publish a Research Paper in a peer-reviewed journal, indexed in Scopus.

Year 4

Continue work on Thesis.
Based on the Thesis defense, completion of subsequent revisions, and the Committee’s recommendation, the candidate is conferred “Fellow in Management” of ITM.

For SFPM Scholars only

Candidature Selection Stage I of SFPM Scholars

Based on the performance in Course Work, Research Paper Publications, Comprehensive Exam and potential to conduct scholarly research work, after year 2 the committee shall determine the eligibility for Senior Research Fellow (SRF) candidature.

Candidature Selection Stage II of SFPM Scholars

On approval of the thesis proposal, and total of 2 research papers published, student moves to advanced Senior Research Fellow (SRF) candidature.


Additional Benefits for SFPM scholar

SFPM scholar will be provided additional certification courses in area of Management, Higher education pedagogy, Academic writing and Analytics along with Module I courses. No charges will
SFPM scholars will be full time employee of ITM. In the role of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) student or Senior Research Fellow (SRF) with the consent of the Research Supervisor, they will assist the Research Supervisor/ Institution/ RPIC in its academic work, including teaching, tutorials, evaluation, laboratory demonstration, supervision of fieldwork, library activities like conferences, workshops, panel discussions, etc. to have understanding of higher education systems and processes.
SFPM scholar as Senior Research Fellow has to undertake teaching in at least one Post-graduate course (theory and/or practical course) equivalent to full credit after successful completion of year 2 courses in addition to other academic responsibilities.

ADMISSION PROCESS


1.

Admission Form & Indication of Research Interest

The applicant needs to complete the FPM application form. The form has to be accompanied by an abstract of 5000 words about the proposed research area/topic. This may be broad based for assessing the applicant’s research interest.

Research Proposal Presentation

Candidate will have to make a presentation to selection committee on tentative research proposal.

3.

Admission Interview

Based on Academic qualifications, Tentative research proposal and its presentation before the Selection Committee, short listed candidates will be required to appear for personal interview at ITM Kharghar for final selection.

The ITM’s - -Fellowship Programme in Management (ITM - FPM) - approved by AICTE is open to all candidates, who qualify the admission process that includes Research proposal presentation, and Personal Interviews (PI) with ITMS RPIC. The programme mix involves critical core courses, in-depth and research based courses related to the domain interest of the candidate, individually pursued self-study courses and the topics-of-individual-interest, that ultimately leads to the student’s thesis. Designed with the help of Industry experts and Academicians from across the globe, the content is aimed to train potential scholars to grow into extremely skilled and ground-breaking researchers, management thinkers and succeed in careers such as Academics, Research, Consultancy and Analytics.

The essential difference between a PhD and fellowship is that the possessor of a PhD has to demonstrate the ability to use research skills to create original knowledge that contributes to the research and theory in a field. In a fellowship programme the scholar has to demonstrate the ability to evaluate, synthesize, and apply knowledge in practical world. Though fellowship scholars may choose to write PhD equivalent dissertations.

One enrolls for a PhD programme when you are studying to get your PhD. A fellowship may involve a research grant that you can get while you are doing your PhD. This may include academic job responsibilities including teaching while earning a PhD.

The Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) is essentially a PhD in Management from ITM Kharghar and one should explore it if you are interested in academics, research, business consultancy as a 'career'. The FPM at ITM emphasizes the creation of theoretical and empirical knowledge in all areas of business, management. It aims to groom promising young researchers to be innovative problem solvers, researchers, and thinkers in various management disciplines like General Management, Economics, Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, Retail Marketing, International Business, Digital Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Business Analytics.

A scholar who wants to make an original and significant contribution to a body of knowledge in a field and whose career goal is to teach at a university or do research.

Someone who has an interest in the practical application of knowledge in a field and wants a career in a practical setting (such as in current business or corporation, academics, or business consultancy).

ITM Sponsored Fellowship programme (SFPM) - Fully Funded by ITM

ITM Fellowship programme in Management (FPM) - Paid programme.
  • In SFPM programme the scholar is paid monthly stipend whereas in FPM scholar has to pay fees.
  • SFPM scholar will work full time at ITM as Research Associate and will be binded by rules and regulations of ITM for working hrs, leave etc. FPM scholars can continue with their jobs and will be coming to campus only on weekends for lectures.
  • SFPM scholars will be provided free additional certifications in areas of management, academic writing and higher education pedagogy over and above the AICTE course requirements. FPM will be given lectures on AICTE stipulated courses only.

The duration of programme is 4 years.

Once the course is completed, one can opt for teaching roles in top tier MBA colleges or in the research profiles in management or as a consultant in corporate world. The salary levels are good in all cases.
