The World Health Day is a global health awareness day celebrated on 7th April every year to mark the foundation day of WHO i.e. World Health Organization. It is a specialised organisation located in United Nations whose primary task is to spread awareness on public health.
Every year there is a special theme for the celebration with context to the current scenario related to health concerns and spread awareness on the same. Since its inception, the WHO day had been celebrated with diversified themes – Urbanisation and health, Antimicrobial resistance, Ageing and Health, Healthy Blood Pressure, Diabetes etc.
This year the theme being Depression: Let’s talk – ITM Institute of Health Sciences celebrated the event in its unique way. Selected students with the peers had organised a small program for older people at Shantikunj Sevashram at Kewale – Harigram. The students had a skit especially to make the elderly happy also were handmade gifts and cards distributed by students to bring a smile on the face of the elderly. The idea was to spend some time with the elderly, make them smile, get them to talk and share happiness.The event had full support and cooperation from Prof. RSS Mani (VP, ITM Group of Institution) and Dr Samir Pachpute (Director, ITM Institute of Health Sciences) and Ms Meenal Rane ( Principal ITM I HS, College of Nursing)
Our special guest and speaker Mr Shrikant Shirsagar delivered an excellent talk on Happiness and Yoga, the audience connect was seen with an overwhelming response. The second half of the event had a small prize distribution (Academic Excellence for MLT students), slogan competition (Nursing students) and a talk on Depression by Ms Mavis Sagar.
