Aim for Industrial Visit:

Industrial visit is considered as one of the tactical methods of teaching. The main reason behind this industrial visit was to let students know things practically through interaction, working methods and employment practices. Moreover, it gives exposure from academic point of view. Main aim of industrial visit is to provide an exposure to students about practical working environment. They also provide students a good opportunity to gain full awareness about industrial practices.

HISTORY OF KALYANI MAXION PVT LTD

1992
Lemmerz enter into a license agreement with Bharat Forge Ltd to produce steel wheels in India. Kalyani Lemmerz Ltd (KLL) is a joint venture between Hayes Lemmerz, USA and the Kalyani Group. The company manufactures Wheel Rims for utility vehicles, light and heavy commercial vehicles and tractors.

2012
Iochpe-Maxion acquires Hayes Lemmerz and creates Maxion wheels from Hayes Lemmerz, Maxion, and Fumagalli.

Findings
Kalyani Maxion Wheels Pvt Ltd has roots in manufacturing automotive components. Major production is done on automated basis. They have end-to-end assembly line, on one end materials are brought in and from other end finished goods are led out.


Procedure followed by the company is as follows:

  • Torqueing
  • Oil dipping
  • Marking according to registration number
  • Welding
  • Vertical turning (boar)
  • Quality check
  • Inspection

During the process of quality check classifications are done based on ‘OK’ or ‘NOT OK’, ‘DISK OK’ or ‘DISK DAMAGE’.

The company’s steel suppliers are: Tata Steels, Essar Steels, Jindal Steels.

They have both national and international customers.

  • National: Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, Eicher Motors
  • International: Daimler, Isuzu truck, Volvo trucks

Their production is such that 1rim is produced in a time frame of 40seconds.
Their new concept is introduced in which tubeless wheel enhances the life of tyre by 80 to 100%. It also improves fuel efficiency.
They display wheel’s size according to different country’s demand.



Learnings

Students Experiences Visits to manufacturing firms are useful for students to understand the realities of what difficulties wheel industry as well as other manufacturing industries face.

  • Through industrial visit we got awareness about new technologies. Visiting different Manufacturing outlets helped us to build a good relationship with the industry.
  • We know building relationship with companies always will always help to gain a good job in future. After visiting an industry gained a combined knowledge about both theoretical and practical.
  • In this visit we have got so many information through the conference.
  • We also learned the difference between alloy and a steel wheel.
  • Anti-dumping duty on wheels.
  • We also got to know about the impact of GST on wheel industry.


Details of the Journey
Our Industrial visit was held on 22nd December,2018. We all gathered at the college campus at 7:00 A.M. Then we were briefed about the industrial visit by our faculties. Then we left for the Industry at 7:30 A.M. We reached there at 11:00 A.M. They provided us Tea. After that we were taken to the Conference room where we saw the presentation about the industry. The presentation was given by Mr. Sunil Bhatanbrekar (Design Manager) highlighting the organization’s ideas, missions and values. It also briefed on the milestones it has reached. After which we were taken to see the whole industry in two groups and gave us the detailed information about each process.



Conclusion
We are thankful to our faculties for organizing such an informative event for us to develop our practical skills regarding manufacturing and other managerial activities.
Moreover, the visit was quite knowledgeable and interesting, a new beginning or a platform to know an industry. We hope we get more chances further to have such wonderful and informative experience of visiting different industries.
