Introduction to the MAT exam
- The Management Aptitude Test, or MAT, is conducted by the All India Management Association for the admission of PGDM or MBA courses.
- It is a national-level entrance examination that aims to check the aptitude and skills of candidates in various fields like mathematical skills, language comprehension, intelligence and critical reasoning, Indian and global environments, and data analysis and sufficiency.
- The exam is mostly conducted four times a year in the months of February, May, September, and December. Students can also choose whether to take the exam online or offline.

Eligibility criteria for the MAT Exam
Candidates from any stream can apply for the exam and make multiple attempts to boost their scores. Here are the other eligibility criteria for the MAT Exam:
- To sit for the MAT Exam, the candidate must have completed his bachelor's degree from a recognised university with an aggregate of 50%.
- Candidates with a reservation quota, i.e., SC, ST, or PWD, required an aggregate of 45% in the bachelor’s degree.
- Students who have appeared in their final year exam or are in the final year of their bachelor’s degree are also eligible to give the exam.
- The minimum age limit for exam eligibility is 20, and there is no upper age limit.
- Students can attempt the exam numerous times, and the latest score will be considered.
- Even though work experience is not compulsory, it is considered during the selection process of top MBA colleges.
Syllabus for the MAT exam
The syllabus of the MAT exam is not much different from the other MBA entrance exams. Here are the topics included in the syllabus:
- Mathematical skills: LCM and HCF, Number System, Percentage, Probability, Trigonometry, Simple and Compound Interest, Linear Equation, Sequence and Series, Average, Profit and Loss, Surds and Indices, etc.
- Language Comprehension: Reading Comprehension, Grammar, Antonyms and Synonyms, One-Word Substitution, Idioms, Parts of Speech, Fill in the blanks, correct sentences, etc.
- Data Analysis and Sufficiency: Venn diagrams, bar diagrams, caselet-based data, tables, pie charts, etc.
- Intelligence and critical reasoning—blood relations, puzzles, coding-decoding, family trees, arrangements, syllogisms, series, calendars, etc.
MAT exam pattern
Here is the MAT exam pattern for the exam:
- The exam is conducted in all three modes, i.e., CBT, IBT, and PBT, with the same exam pattern.
- The paper will have four sections, which are Language Comprehension, Data Analysis & Sufficiency, Mathematical Skills, Intelligence & Critical Reasoning, and Indian & Global Environment, with 40 questions each.
- The question paper will have 200 questions with 150 marks.
- According to the marking scheme of the MAT exam, a +1 mark will be given for every correct answer, and -0.25 marks will be deducted for an incorrect response.
Admission criteria for MAT exam colleges
There is no specified MAT exam 2022 eligibility for admission to various MBA colleges. Every college has its own set of eligibility criteria for admission. Make sure you go through them thoroughly before applying to them. Here are the general criteria that the MAT exam colleges follow:
- A minimum mark of 50%–60% is required for graduation; however, it varies for different colleges.
- The performance in the 10th and 12th grades is also given importance.
- The MBA colleges also schedule group discussions and personal interviews to assess a candidate's personality, communication skills, and suitability for the course.
How to apply for the MAT Exam
Here are the steps candidates can follow to apply for the MAT exam in 2022:
- Go to the official website, which is https://mat.aima.in/
- Fill in the details like name, email, date of birth, and phone number, and also create a password.
- After submitting the details, an OTP will be sent to the given mobile number.
- Use the OTP to verify the phone number.
- Go to the new login sent in your email.
- Choose the test date, mode and other details according to your convenience.
- Upload your passport-size photo and signature.
- Give five MBA colleges according to a preference.
- Pay the exam fee.
- Upload other educational details, personal details, etc.
- Click on the declaration check box to complete it.
Documents required for MAT registration
Here are the documents students should keep handy while registering for the MAT Exam:
- 10th, 12th, and graduation mark sheets
- Credit card, debit card, or Internet banking details for the payment.
- Date of birth and category certificates
- A scanned image of your passport-sized photograph in jpg or jpeg format. (40 KB to 100 KB)
- Scanned signature copy in jpg or jpeg format. (10 KB to 40 KB)
- Educational qualification details
- A graduation certificate is important, as any failure in the certificate submission will result in cancellation.
